We went to the Community Christmas Caroling last night at the Energy Solutions Arena. There was a very long line and we had to wait in the cold for a bit, but once we got in we got free hot dogs and pop. The boys loved that. We sung a few Christmas carols, but nobody else was really singing, so that was kind of disappointing. They didn't have anyone leading the singers, just the orchestra, so people didn't really know when to sing. It was also really high, so it was difficult to sing along to. And they sang every verse of every song, even the verses that nobody really knows. So, that part was fun, but not great. Then, John Schmidt came out. He was so fun! He laid down on the piano bench so that he was looking at the bottom of the piano, then reached his hands around and played. He also played with his toes. He's just incredibly talented. Then, to top it all off, he played Love Story/Viva La Vida. Any of you who know Evan know how he feels about that song. It was so neat to watch him have that opportunity. John Schmidt has been working on the rights to be able to play the two songs together, but isn't quite there yet. So, he said that he had figured out a way to play it legally. He played Love Story, then while holding out the note, said into the mic, "I'm now going to play Viva La Vida. With a special intro." Then he played it. It was so good! Anyway, we sang a few more songs, the Jazz Bear and Santa made appearances, then we went home. It was a great Family Night.
