Yep, that is the question. There is a house in Kaysville that is only 2 miles from Don's work and it is a huge house. It has been through foreclosure, so we could get it really cheap and have instant equity. So, what is the problem? It is a total fixer-upper. I think at least 7 wild children lived there before. It pretty much needs everything replaced, but with the instant equity, we should easily be able to get a loan to fix it up. It has a 2 bedroom mother-in-law apartment that we could rent out and have some help with the mortgage payment. It also sits on a .50 acre lot (twice what we have now) so we could possibly eventually build another house on the other half of the lot and sell or rent the first house. Then we would have a free lot to build on. We are so back and forth about this, we just can't seem to make a decision.
Another issue is that Evan is enrolled in preschool here in Bountiful. He would start in August, which would be impossible if we moved to Kaysville. Plus we love our house and our ward here. Any suggestions?

Here is my professisonal take on the subject. First of all, houses here are going for about 200 a sq. foot. Yours is about $50! If you turn right around and start making improvements it would probably be great. The problem is that most people say they are going to do things and 10 years later they have never gotten around to it. The other thing is the age. It is almost the same age as our house, which was take really good care of, but everything seems to be breaking at the same time. It would be fun to have a big yard though! I would probably do it!
My first thought is BUY THE HOUSE!!! Because well, you know, getting equity out here is next to impossible but then again, a sweet deal isn't necessarily always the right deal, though it could be. And it's so hard to leave friends, family and a ward you love, etc, etc... Yup, I'm a big help on this one, huh? grin
Ok I'm like nobody to tell you what to do and by now you may have already made your choice....but I happen to live in Kaysville and I think it is like the greatest. It would be a good place to raise kids in and that sounds like a super good deal. :)
