Antelope for the Weekend

We didn't know what we were going to do for the holiday weekend. My parents were out of town and we had just been up to Idaho with Kristi's parents. We decided to get out of the house and do something different. Antelope Island is only 15-20 miles away from our house but I'm the only one who had ever been there. We didn't really know what we were going to do once we got there. We just had a vague idea of seeing buffalo and getting to what the Aloha spirit is all about because it's an island. There weren't any hula dancers (Speaking of, I just put two and two together and figured out the hula hoop is referring to the hula dance - who knew? I guess I just heard hula hoop as one word and never stopped to think about it.) but there were lots of buffalo.

It was cool to see them and imagine that we were in the great plains. After seeing the buffalo we went to the west side of the island. It was beautiful. There was a really great look out point on the mountain.

We had the most fun, however, on the gnat infested beach. Who knew gnats could be so fun and interesting. We wished we had brought swimming gear but, since we didn't, we thought we would go to the beach and throw rocks or something. We found the beach to be pretty except for it being mostly black. As we stepped on the beach, we discovered that the black parts of the beach would part hither and thither as we walked. Gnats!

They were as thick as flies.

We all had a wonderful time making the gnats fly away as we charged them. Luckily, they were tame gnats and didn't bug us at all. Watch the video to see how thick they really were. Look close, they're little.
