Lucky

Within a week of the anniversary of my nephew Ryan's death in an ATV accident, my brother Jay was in a motorcycle accident. Luckily Jay had a happier outcome than Ryan, but he will still have a very long road to recovery.

Jay was hit from behind when he slowed with the traffic, but the car behind him did not. He flew off the bike and landed on top of the car that was in front of him and the motorcycle landed on him. Then the car that was 2 cars behind him hit the next one, that then hit the car that Jay was on, which threw him off.

Luckily, his next-door-neighbor was the first one on the scene. After an ambulance was on the way, he was able to give him a blessing and call Jay's wife to tell her to go to the hospital. Then he arranged for his wife to go watch the kids so that she could leave. She was able to meet the ambulance at the hospital. When the doctors found that Jay had a bruised lung, they decided to life flight him to University Hospital. The Vernal Hospital didn't have a respirator so they needed to get him to one that did. He had bleeding on his brain, the bruised lung, strained ligaments in his neck, 7 broken ribs, 2 cracked vertebrae in his back, a broken wrist and a broken shoulder. Fortunately, the bleeding on his brain stopped and he will be okay. His helmet definitely saved his life.

Through a miracle, he is walking around a bit and the doctors decided to release him today. He has to wear a very uncomfortable brace that goes all the way up to his chin and makes him look up all of the time. It's driving him nuts, but he has to wear it for at least two weeks. He won't be able to work for awhile, but at least he'll be at home and not in the hospital. He is so lucky and we are so thankful that he is still with us. Please keep him in your prayers.
